VARULV

I remember the good old days of opening a fresh issue of Battle Chasers, or Ultimates, and being blown away by the sheer coolness factor of the art. I wanted to inject that same energy into my own series, so for VARULV, I opted to merge graphic sensibilities with trad-art techniques. The result is bold, colorful characters set against painted backdrops to create a cartoony, but grown-up take on the fantasy graphic novel.

My first real jump into fan-comics, Dethkomic came about while looking to pass the time with a project when covid-19 lockdown prevented all of us from doing anything out-of-doors. it caught on with metalocalypse fans and I ended up making over 200 pages of comic in under 2 years' time. I enjoyed the challenges of working in a limited palette and keeping track of ten major protagonists.

Another fan-comic, and one I managed to pull together under a tight deadline of just a few days. The goal was to make a comic that both looked like and read like an animated feature film. Experimentation in re-using assets, simplifying character designs, and using a combination of painted and photobashed backgrounds (in every single panel!) were great successes, here.
